These terms govern your use of BuddyTxt ("we," "us," "our") — a text message–based accountability service. By signing up, you agree to these terms. They're written in plain English because we believe you should actually understand what you're agreeing to.
1. What BuddyTxt Is
BuddyTxt is a text message–based accountability service. When you sign up, a real person from our team will send you personalized daily text messages (via SMS or WhatsApp, depending on your preference) to help you stay on track with your health and fitness goals.
We provide motivation, accountability, and encouragement through two-way text conversations.
2. What BuddyTxt Is NOT
This is important. BuddyTxt is not:
- Medical advice. We are not doctors, dietitians, or licensed healthcare providers. Nothing we text you should be taken as medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before starting any diet, exercise program, or making changes that could affect your health.
- Therapy or counseling. We are not therapists, psychologists, or licensed mental health professionals. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a qualified professional or call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988).
- Personal training. We do not design workout programs, meal plans, or nutrition protocols. We help you stick to the plans and goals you've already set for yourself.
- A replacement for professional help. If you need clinical support for an eating disorder, body dysmorphia, or any medical condition, please seek professional care.
3. Free Trial
New subscribers receive a 7-day free trial. During this period, you will receive daily text messages from your coach and can reply at any time. Your payment method is collected at signup, but you will not be charged during the trial period.
If you cancel before the trial ends, you will not be charged. If you do not cancel, your subscription will automatically begin at the end of the trial, and your first payment of $29 will be processed.
4. Subscription & Billing
- BuddyTxt costs $29 per month, billed monthly through Stripe.
- Your subscription renews automatically each month on the anniversary of your signup date.
- Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We never see or store your full credit card number.
- If a payment fails, we may retry the charge. If payment cannot be collected, your service may be paused or cancelled.
- Prices may change with 30 days' notice. Any price changes will not apply during your current billing period.
5. Cancellation
- You may cancel your subscription at any time — no contracts, no commitments, no cancellation fees.
- To cancel, reply STOP to any BuddyTxt message, email us at support@buddytxt.com, or use the cancellation link in your account.
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will continue to receive texts until that date.
- We do not offer partial refunds for unused portions of a billing period.
6. Refund Policy
Because we offer a 7-day free trial, we generally do not issue refunds after the trial period. If you believe you were charged in error or have an exceptional circumstance, contact us and we'll do our best to resolve it fairly.
7. Text Messaging Terms
By providing your phone number and signing up for BuddyTxt, you consent to receive recurring text messages (SMS or WhatsApp) from BuddyTxt at the number you provided. This includes:
- Daily morning motivation texts
- Daily evening accountability check-in texts
- Replies to messages you send us
- Occasional service-related messages (e.g., billing confirmations, service updates)
Message frequency: Approximately 2–6 messages per day, depending on your conversation activity.
Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan. BuddyTxt is not responsible for any charges from your carrier.
Sending hours: We will only send scheduled messages between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM in your local timezone. Replies to your messages may occur outside these hours if you initiate the conversation.
To opt out: Reply STOP, QUIT, END, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE to any BuddyTxt message at any time. You will receive a single confirmation message (with no promotional content) and no further messages will be sent. Opting out of messages also cancels your subscription.

Your first message: When you begin your trial, your first text from BuddyTxt will include our business name, what you signed up for, message frequency, data rate notice, and instructions for STOP and HELP.
We comply with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), CTIA messaging guidelines, and all applicable federal and state messaging regulations. Our toll-free number is verified in accordance with carrier requirements.
8. Your Responsibilities
By using BuddyTxt, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information at signup (real name, working phone number, valid email).
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Communicate respectfully with your coach. Our team members are real people — abusive, threatening, or harassing messages will result in immediate termination of service without refund.
- Not use BuddyTxt for any illegal purpose.
- Consult your own healthcare provider before making health or fitness decisions based on anything discussed in our texts.
9. Our Coaches
BuddyTxt coaches are trained accountability partners. They are not licensed fitness professionals, dietitians, therapists, or medical practitioners unless explicitly stated. Their role is to provide motivation, encouragement, and daily accountability — not professional advice.
If a coach identifies a concern that falls outside the scope of our service (e.g., signs of disordered eating, mental health distress), they may suggest you consult a qualified professional. This is not a diagnosis — it is a recommendation made in good faith.
10. Limitation of Liability
BuddyTxt is provided "as is." We do our best to provide helpful, consistent, and positive support, but we make no guarantees regarding specific health or fitness outcomes.
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- BuddyTxt is not liable for any injuries, health issues, or adverse outcomes resulting from actions you take based on conversations with your coach.
- BuddyTxt is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.
- Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 3 months preceding any claim.
11. Privacy
We take your privacy seriously. Here's what we collect and how we use it:
Information we collect
- At signup: Your name, email, phone number, messaging preference (SMS or WhatsApp), timezone, preferred check-in times, fitness goal, coaching style preference, and your personal goal statement.
- During use: The content of your text conversations with your coach, and basic usage data (e.g., response times, message frequency).
- From ads: UTM tracking parameters (which ad or campaign brought you here). This does not include personally identifiable information.
- Payments: Processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full payment details.
How we use it
- To provide the BuddyTxt service — your coach uses your profile and conversation history to personalize your experience.
- To send you service-related communications (billing confirmations, important updates).
- To improve our service over time.
What we don't do
- We never sell your personal information to third parties.
- We never share your conversation content with anyone outside of BuddyTxt, except as required by law.
- We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
- Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Your opt-out rights
You can opt out of receiving text messages from BuddyTxt at any time by any of the following methods:
- Reply STOP, QUIT, END, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE to any BuddyTxt message
- Email us at support@buddytxt.com
- Use any other reasonable method to communicate your wish to stop receiving messages
Upon receiving your opt-out request, we will send a single confirmation message (containing no promotional content) and immediately cease all future messages. Opting out of messages also cancels your subscription. We process all opt-out requests within 24 hours.
To resume messages after opting out, you must re-subscribe through our website.
Getting help
Reply HELP to any BuddyTxt message, or email us at support@buddytxt.com, to receive information about the service including how to opt out.
Data retention
If you cancel your subscription, we retain your data for 90 days in case you return. After that, your personal information and conversation history are permanently deleted. You may request immediate deletion at any time by emailing us.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate BuddyTxt:
- Stripe — payment processing
- Formspree — signup form data collection
- Quo (formerly OpenPhone) — toll-free SMS delivery
- WhatsApp Business — WhatsApp message delivery (if selected)
Each of these services has their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you via text or email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of BuddyTxt after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
